O-15 Mango Tree – Grafted on Turpentine Rootstock

Product description

Grow a mango with bold flavor and a place early in your harvest plans. O-15 Mango Tree, also called Zill O-15, offers sweet fruit with a strongly aromatic, resinous character. It is an intriguing choice for gardeners who enjoy exploring distinctive mango varieties.

All our mango trees are propagated by grafting onto Turpentine rootstock. Choose your available O-15 tree at The Island Gardeners, with Palm Bay pickup near Melbourne, Florida, and nationwide shipping to eligible destinations.

Why grow O-15?

  • A Florida selection with a distinctive flavor personality.
  • Firm, fiberless flesh for fresh eating.
  • An early-season option to compare with later mango harvests.
  • Grafted nursery stock on Turpentine rootstock.

Origin and other names

O-15 is a Jakarta seedling from Gary Zill's breeding program in Boynton Beach, Florida. It is often listed as Zill O-15. The designation starts with the letter O. Its botanical name is Mangifera indica 'O-15'.

Fruit size, appearance, and flavor

The supplied photographs show oval-to-ovate mangoes with broad shoulders and a narrowing, rounded lower end. Skin can develop yellow tones and a pink-red blush while retaining some green coloration. Fruit is generally described as medium-sized; a dependable Florida weight range was not confirmed, so this listing does not promise an exact ounce range.

Expect a bold, sweet mango flavor with resinous and spicy notes reminiscent of Jakarta. This is a pronounced aromatic style rather than a mild mango. Yellow, firm, fiberless flesh makes it enjoyable in slices or a chilled fruit bowl.

Growth and garden placement

O-15 can grow vigorously and develop a dense, spreading canopy. Give it room and plan for regular selective pruning. It should not be chosen on the assumption that it is naturally dwarf. Train young branches, maintain access for harvesting, and keep the planting away from overhead lines and structures.

Planting and care

Choose full sun, a warm position, and good drainage. Keep the graft union above the soil and remove rootstock shoots that emerge below it. Water regularly during establishment, then adjust to rainfall and soil moisture. Avoid persistently saturated roots. Feed according to tree size, fertilizer directions, and local guidance.

Prune selectively after harvest to maintain airflow. Florida growers have reported anthracnose spotting and stem-end rot on O-15, so inspect fruit regularly and remove spoiled fruit. Performance varies with growing conditions; this cultivar is not presented as disease-proof or a guaranteed heavy bearer.

Protect young trees from frost and freezing conditions, especially in Central Florida. In colder regions, provide suitable protected growing conditions. Shipping eligibility does not establish year-round outdoor suitability.

Florida harvest and My Food Forest

Florida planning window: May–June, often concentrated in June. Local grower observations indicate a short picking season, sometimes around a couple of weeks. Weather, flowering, and maturity can shift timing.

Use our Harvest Calendar and My Food Forest tools to compare O-15 with later cultivars and identify harvest overlaps. Record your own bloom and picking dates to refine your plan. Scan the Harvest Calendar QR on the product image to explore the tool.

Check frequently as fruit matures and use fullness, aroma, and softening alongside color to assess readiness. Harvest gently to avoid bruising.

Frequently asked questions

Is this tree grafted?
Yes. Our O-15 mango trees, like all our mango trees, are grafted onto Turpentine rootstock.

Is it O-15 or zero-15?
We use O-15, with the letter O, also sold as Zill O-15.

Is the flavor mild?
Growers describe a strong resinous, spicy aroma alongside sweetness. It is a good variety to explore if you enjoy bold mango flavors.

Is it suitable for a small garden?
Its vigor and spreading canopy require space and regular pruning. It is not listed as a naturally dwarf tree.

When will it start producing?
First bearing depends on tree maturity and growing conditions. Grafting preserves the selected cultivar, but does not guarantee fruit on arrival or a fixed fruiting deadline.

What size will arrive?
Choose from the current nursery variants. Their specifications should identify the actual pot size and height range. Fruit photos illustrate the cultivar rather than the tree shipped.

Do you offer nationwide shipping?
Yes, to eligible destinations, subject to plant-entry restrictions, selected size, weather, and checkout availability. Palm Bay pickup is available near Melbourne, Florida.
